Accessibility is a progressive right — but action cannot wait indefinitely. The recently enacted Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act gives public buildings three years to become accessible, and enforcement must begin with the places persons with disabilities rely on every day.
Assistive technology already exists to help visually impaired people access documents, and relatively simple measures can make public spaces more inclusive. Authorities should not wait for permanent solutions before acting on interim accessibility improvements.
